State Gallery and Library – Year 2 to 3 Excursion

On Thursday 2 November, our Years 2 and 3 students had a fun-filled day of art and culture. After arriving in the city, we all had a relaxed recess on the green grass below the new museum. This was followed by some amazing workshops run by the Art Gallery of Western Australia (AGWA) and the State Library of Western Australia (SLWA).

The students were enthralled with the Exquisite Bodies workshop based on the work of artist Bruno Booth. The students learnt how to create shared drawings which led to some very unique art pieces. They were then fascinated with the sculptures created out of 3D shapes. After discussing how these sculptures made them feel and what words they reminded them of, we were lucky enough to build some sculptures of our own!

At the State Library of Western Australia, we took a walk along memory lane, having a chance to see how our beautiful city of Perth has changed over the last 150 years using the library’s archive photographs.  Students were then treated to a chance to create their own souvenirs using some copies of these precious photos.  Finally, our students were privileged to view some magnificent pieces in AGWA. Our students returned to school joyful and inspired!
