Captain’s Blog – Term 2

Hello, and welcome to the second Captain’s Blog of the big ’25! It’s hard to believe we are halfway through the school year. This term, although shorter, has been eventful and fun with what we have been doing.

The term started with a formal tone as we commemorated ANZAC Day with a whole school assembly. Mr Whitely spoke about the sacrifices made by the men and women who went to war so that we can experience the freedoms of living in Australia today. Mrs Lakstins read us a lovely story called Anzac Ted, and then we moved to the flag poles to lay the wreath and observe a minute’s silence.

The Year 5 and 6 students shone at this term’s WACSSA Soccer and Netball carnivals. Despite the wintry weather, both teams triumphed – our girls placed first, and the boys came second in both sports. A fantastic effort all around!

Camps are always a highlight for the Years 4-6, and this term, there were two camps – Year 4 and Year 5. The camps were full of adventure, fun activities and team building.

In Week 8, we got pumped for Jump Rope for Heart. Throughout the term, we all practised our skipping skills during Phys Ed lessons and fundraised for the cause. The Jump Off afternoon was a big success and had everyone out doing rotations to show off their skills. We’re sure this event will continue to be a favourite next year.

We also celebrated NAIDOC Week with engaging incursions, powerful storytelling, and Bible-based art that connected meaningfully with Indigenous artwork.

RiseUP! continued this term, focusing on the school value of Courage. Activities this term consisted of decorating keyrings to remind us to be courageous, writing our hopes and planting them with a sunflower seed to grow big and strong. Unfortunately, our scavenger hunt was a washout due to the rainy weather.

PJ Day is something we all look forward to – who wouldn’t want to come to school in their pyjamas?! Perfect timing, given the chilly winter weather we had this final week.

As 2025 Captains, we wanted to introduce a new segment as part of the blog – Shout Out Time. This is our opportunity to acknowledge those students and staff that we have noticed demonstrating our school values.

This term’s Shout Outs go to:

  • Ivan T in Year 1 for Courage
  • Liam B Year 3 for Excellence
  • Thokozile K Year 5 for Community
  • Junhee E Year 6 for Kindness
  • And let’s not forget our fabulous PE teachers, Mrs Parr and Mrs Luca, for organising our Jump Off afternoon!

We hope you have a safe and wonderful three-week holiday!
