Welcome to the final edition of the Captain’s Blog for 2024! As we reach the end of the year and the conclusion of our Primary School journey, we look back on an action-packed Term 4. From sports carnivals and the School’s Official Opening to Christmas events, Graduation, the Awards Assembly, Mrs Durham’s Retirement Assembly, and Beechboro’s Got Talent, it’s been a term to remember. Here are some of the highlights from this incredible final chapter.
The term kicked off with the highly anticipated Interhouse Athletics Carnival, spanning three days of excitement and competition. Wednesday and Thursday featured jumps and throws, while Friday was reserved for the thrilling track events and team games. In a historic moment, Nightingale claimed the overall victory – their first win since we were in Kindy!
The Official Opening of BCS in Week 6 was a truly memorable occasion, marking the culmination of a long and prayerful journey to finally have a place to call home. The event was graced by the presence of distinguished guests, including politicians, our local Mayor and Councillors, SCEA Executives, Principals, and past BCS Principals and staff. It was a joyous celebration that brought together the entire school community to reflect on the blessings of our journey and look forward to an exciting future in our new home.
The highlight of the Year 6 calendar is, of course, Graduation! On the Wednesday night of Week 8, the Year 6 cohort, along with our parents and families, gathered at the Cracovia Club to celebrate the end of our primary school journey. It was a truly memorable evening filled with joy and reflection. A huge thank you to all the staff for making us feel so special and loved, not just on this important night but throughout all our years here at BCS. We are so grateful for the incredible support and care we’ve received along the way.
This year marks the end of a musical era with the retirement of our beloved Mrs Durham. To honour and celebrate her incredible contributions to BCS, we held a special assembly in Week 9. It was heartwarming to have Mrs Durham’s family, along with past staff and students, join us for this memorable occasion. The highlight of the event was when the entire school stood to surprise Mrs Durham with a special song written just for her, set to the tune of Thank You for the Music – a perfect tribute to her inspiring legacy!
RiseUP! continued this term, focusing on the school value of Excellence. Through a four-week Colossians Challenge, we explored how to pursue excellence in caring for our school and encouraging one another. The term concluded with a special transition session in preparation for next year: our Year 6 students handed over to the Year 5s, Year 2s joined the Risers, and Pre-Primary students became part of Lil Risers with the Year 1s. It was a meaningful way to celebrate growth and look forward to what lies ahead!
This year has been truly incredible, filled with unforgettable experiences and the support of so many wonderful people. We are deeply grateful for everyone who has been part of this journey. Wishing you all a joyful and blessed Christmas and a safe and happy New Year!
Lana and Sihan signing out for 2024.
